We’re incredibly excited to welcome Amanda MacGregor back to GWG as co-owner and Executive Director. Together with Julie Gearie, Amanda will lead the business and help shape its future direction.
For Amanda, it’s also a return to where an important part of her recruitment career began. She previously spent six years with GWG, building lasting relationships with clients and candidates across Newcastle, the Hunter and regional NSW.
“Coming back to GWG feels a little like coming home,” Amanda said. “I really valued my time here and have always had enormous respect for the business, its people and the relationships it has built. To return as an owner and help shape what comes next is incredibly exciting.”
Since her first chapter with GWG, Amanda MacGregor has continued to build an exceptional career in recruitment and business leadership. Most recently named the 2025 Executive Recruiter of the Year for NSW by Sourcr, she has extensive experience in executive search, strategic talent acquisition and partnering with organisations through periods of growth and transformation.
Her return brings together two highly regarded recruitment leaders with complementary experience, strong networks and a shared commitment to providing a highly personal and considered recruitment experience.
Building on strong foundations
Since GWG was established in 2011, we’ve grown into a successful boutique recruitment business with deep connections across Newcastle, the Hunter and regional NSW.
Newcastle and the Hunter will always be at the heart of GWG, while our relationships and reach continue to grow across Sydney, the Central Coast, Mid North Coast, New England and Northern Inland NSW.
Our success has always been built on relationships: taking the time to understand the organisations we work with, genuinely knowing our markets and caring about the outcomes we deliver for clients and candidates.
With more than 20 years of recruitment experience, Julie has deep knowledge of organisational operations, people performance and board dynamics. Her leadership, commercial insight and ability to develop trusted relationships have been central to GWG’s strength and reputation.
“Amanda has an incredible depth of recruitment and leadership experience, but just as importantly, we share the same values and belief in how recruitment should be done,” Julie said. “We’re both deeply invested in our region, our relationships and our team. I’m genuinely excited about what we can build together.”
Julie and Amanda’s complementary strengths will allow GWG to continue evolving while remaining true to what has always made the business special.

Julie and Amanda share a clear vision for GWG’s future: to remain boutique, specialist and relationship-led while continuing to deepen our capability across corporate, technical and executive recruitment.
Their focus will be on developing even stronger client partnerships, investing in the GWG team and using technology thoughtfully to improve the recruitment experience—without losing the human connection at the heart of great recruitment.
The goal isn’t for GWG to become the biggest recruitment business in the market. It’s to be the trusted recruitment partner organisations and people turn to because we understand their market, care about the outcome and consistently deliver.
As part of the ownership transition, co-founder James Grierson has stepped away from the business. We want to acknowledge and thank James for the important role he has played in GWG’s journey.
His commitment and support have helped shape the strong and successful business GWG is today, and we’re incredibly grateful for the foundations he has helped create for its future.
With Julie and Amanda now leading GWG as co-owners, the business will continue to evolve while remaining grounded in the values that have guided us from the beginning. Relationships, trust, care and quality will remain at the heart of everything we do.
